Players who know they will be in that position again don't care about money and make an aggressive play. By laying up it seems he wasn't very comfortable with trying to win on the Tour for the first time. With laying up and that short pin he didn't have much a chance to hit it close because he was going to spin it too much. The same can be said for Tim Clark at the Hope.
